Anne’s Cake

A recurring theme that you’ll find in this blog is a cake by the name of Anne’s Liniment Cake. As a homeschooled individual, I read all the Anne of Green Gables books, then, when I showed an interest, my mother bought me the Anne of Green Gables cookbook. In the first book of Anne of Green Gables, a chapter called, “A New Departure of Flavorings,” Anne tries to bake a simple yellow cake. It didn’t go well. She uses the correct ingredients except for vanilla extract; instead of vanilla extract, she accidentally uses liniment. Liniment is toxic to humans and probably any other living creature. Now, something I never really understood was why Marilla scolded her.  It’s not really fair, it wasn’t Anne’s fault that she used liniment. It was Marilla’s. Marilla put liniment in the empty vanilla extract bottle, so it’s Marilla’s fault, not Anne’s.  That always ticked me off, and it still does to this day. So to do the redhead justice, I make this cake often. Instead of just the regular yellow cake, I make it in different flavors like chocolate, matcha, cinnamon roll, or coffee. There are tons of different flavors that, in combinations, I still haven’t tried yet and plan to do.  Of course, each one is even more delicious than the last, so I’ll post pictures of them of the different variations I’ve made, and if possible, you guys can tell me what I should do next.  I recently made the cinnamon roll cake, basically the base of the cake without any extras, but then I made a cinnamon roll filling, plopped it in there, and swirled it around.  I brought this variation to a dinner party hosted by some family friends. I topped it with whipped cream, a homemade sweet whipped cream, to be exact.  Before I knew it, it was completely gone, so I don’t have pictures right now. I’ll probably have pictures at a later date. Well, that’s all for me, happy baking.
